MWENEZI – Mwenezi Rural District Council has procured 18 motorbikes for its 18 Councillors at a total cost of US$28 000, the local authority’s Chief Executive Officer Albert Chivanga has said.
The motorbikes which were purchased from SKM Motors in Harare were delivered at Neshuro council offices last Tuesday.
Chivanga said the councilors are going to pay for the motorbikes through deductions made from their monthly allowances.
“The motorbikes will facilitate travels for the councillors who have vast wards. The councillors conducted their work by foot or bicycles and it meant some areas were not reached. We are happy as a council that we have met the Minister of Local Government, July Moyo’s challenge to provide councillors with decent transport,” said Chivanga
Ward 15 Councillor Samuel Kwinika says the motorbikes will go a long way in easing their transport problems.
“Ward 15 which comprises of Turf, Valley and Mateke is one of the biggest wards in Mwenezi where there are serious transport challenges. It was inevitable that I would arrive late for meetings but this will now be a thing of the past,” said Kwinika.
