CHIREDZI – Provincial Magistrate Diana Masiiwa has sentenced Davison Matsilele (42) of Mwenezi to the mandatory nine years after he stole 13 cattle from his brother –in- law.
Matsilele of Masiya Village under Chief Chitanga was convicted of stock theft last Wednesday and he will serve the full sentence.
He stole the cattle from his brother-in-law John Musengi, a farmer in Hippo Valley Section 15.
The theft happened on March 13, 2024, at Musengi’s farm.
Circumstances are that Musengi left his cattle grazing in the pastures. Matsilele who was close by drove the cattle to an undisclosed location.
Musengi couldn’t find the cattle over four days. A friend phoned him on the fifth day and told him that a suspicious truck was parked near Matsilele’s homestead.
Claudia Masuku accompanied Musengi to the truck and they saw Matsilele driving the cattle into the truck. Matsilele ran away.
The truck driver told Musengi that he was hired by Matsilele to ferry the cattle to Ngundu.
Tanyaradzwa Dube prosecuted.
