MVUMA -Mvuma residents have expressed frustration at roads in the town that have no names thereby making it difficult to direct people around.
Most streets in Zimbabwe are named after Zanu PF politicians with the Presidents (Mnangagwa and Mugabe) having several streets in every town named after them.
The residents said that there are no street names in Mushayavhudzi, Newlands, Grassland, Blinkwater and ACEBS/Town. A source at council said that there are more that twenty streets in Mvuma.
Mvuma which is one of the country’s oldest gold mining towns has a population of approximately 6 500 and it is located almost at the center of Zimbabwe.
The meeting was called by Mvuma Residents and Ratepayers Association (MRRA) and although all the councilors were invited, only one Wonder Chiverengo attended.
MRRA chairperson, Leave Madzura facilitated the meeting.
“We urge the local authority to do the standard thing and name all roads in the town. This helps in terms of identification of addresses and for directions.
Chirumhanzu Rural District Council Chief Executive Officer, Lovemore Chatikobo could not be reached for a comment since his phone was unreachable several times.
Concil chairman Tembinkosi Miti said said the council was aware of the need to name roads in the town and insisted the local authority will sort the issue.
