MASVINGO – The Simon Vengai Muzenda Sports Foundation is hosting the S.V. Muzenda 2024 under 10-18 national tennis championship on next Friday – Sunday, at Masvingo Sports Club.
One of the conveners and coach Privy Fanisai confirmed the championship to the Mirror.
The tournament began in 2018 and is in its sixth year running. It is held to celebrate the life of the former vice president who died on September 20, 2003.
Fanisai said the tournament is now part of Tennis Zimbabwe and this year’s edition will have the red ball, orange ball and green Ball.
Registration for the tournament closes on Wednesday (September 18). And entry fee is US$25.
“We will have the U12, 14 and 18 players in the single and double player categories. This is our sixth year hosting this tournament and I’m elated to say that we have improved as this is now a national tournament. The Simon Muzenda Championship is now part of the Tennis Zimbabwe and it has been marked on the calendar. Winners will get prizes and this motivates players.
“We have players from four year of age to 18. Many kids will come from across the country because it’s a national activity so the whole of Zimbabwe will be there to celebrate the life of Simon Muzenda,” she said.
