MUTARE– City of Mutare has resolved to advertise the post of Town Clerk whose prospective candidate has not taken up office in close to a year.

Recalled Mayor Sophia Gwasira told Chipinge Times while she was still in office that the resolution was passed in a full council meeting.

“The post of Town Clerk fell vacant following Joshua Maligwa’s death in January 2021.

“We did interviews and gave the post to Kumbirai Madanhi who has not turned up for duty. Council wrote to the Local Government Board that advised us to re-advertise the post,” she said.

Efforts to get a comment from Madanhi who is serving as the Ruwa Local Board Town Secretary were futile as his mobile phone was unreachable by the time of going to Press.

He was supposed to assume duty in March this year and has not shown up since. Kumbirai Madanhi is holding fort as the acting town clerk.

The post has been held by Engineer Tinashe Mtetwa and Dr Anthony Mutara on acting capacities.

United Mutare Residents and Ratepayers Trust (UMRRT) director Edson Dube recently told this publication that the delay in appointing a substantive clerk is stalling the city’s development.
