Mutare granny (71) arrested over mbanje

MUTARE– Magistrate Perseverance Makala has fined a 71-year-old Mutare woman ZWL$110 000 or nine months in jail for possession of dagga (mbanje) and selling beer without a license.
Lucia Ceda (71) of Bvirindi Village, Chief Marange was arrested on Monday by Police officers who were raiding beer outlets and inspecting liquor licenses. Ceda was charged with contravening Section 113 (1) (a) of the Liquor Act and possession of dagga.
Prosecutor Thom Nyamutswa said that on Monday at 2:30 pm, Police officers arrived at Ceda’s homestead where she operates a shabeen and found her selling beer to patrons.
The patrons ran away and the officers requested Ceda’s liquor license which the latter failed to produce. The officers then went on to search the homestead and found 370 grams of dagga in a black paperback leading to her arrest.
