MUTARE – Mutare City Council will embark on a polio vaccination campaign from July 28 to 31, 2022 in light of an outbreak of the disease that has been reported in Mozambique and Malawi, the local authority’s spokesperson Spren Mutiwi has said.
Mutiwi told Chipinge Times in an interview that the vaccination exercise will be carried out in all wards, residential areas, schools and churches. He urged parents and guardians to take their children to vaccination centres.
“The City of Mutare will be conducting a polio vaccination campaign from July 28 to 31, 2022. We are targeting all children aged between zero to 59 months. The campaign will be carried out nationally and this is due to the recent polio outbreaks in neighbouring Mozambique and Malawi.
“We encourage all parents and guardians to co-operate with health workers during this exercise. We will ensure that all the children are vaccinated against polio as there is need to prevent the devastating effects of this ailment from our children,” said Mutiwi.
