MUTARE– Mutare City Rovers coach Kennedy ‘Bokande’ Kachara has been made to pay for the team’s failure to gain promotion after he was shown the exit door by the club’s executive.

Kachara’s contract which expires at the end of the year was terminated on November 9, 2022 at a meeting held at Mutare Hall. The municipal- owned side failed to return to top flight football after finishing as first runner- up to Greenfuel despite starting the term brightly.

Gusha bhora as Mutare City Rovers are fondly known failed to sustain the push and Greenfuel won the league with three games to spare.

Reached for comment Gusha Bhora chairman Onias Nyikadzino said the club is not in a position to comment on the matter.

“We are not at a position to make a comment about that at the moment. Soon we will give you the correct information and the way forward. We will give a press statement,” he said

Reached for comment, the soft spoken Kachara could not shed more on the matter.

“I cannot comment on this matter. You can get hold of the executive,” he said.

However impeccable sources told Mirror Sport that the club fired Beaned stating that they wanted to run the league professionally.

“They fired Bokande because he failed to gain promotion. The executive said they wanted a qualified coach so that when the team gains promotion they won’t change the coach. The executive said changing coaches was affecting the team and it was the reason why the team failed to stay longer in Premier Soccer League (PSL). Kachara is going to coach women soccer,” said the source.

Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) implemented strict measures for local football coaches that require all top flight league coaches and their assistants to possess a Confederation of African Football (CAF) A licence. This implies that any unqualified coach will not be allowed to sit on the bench.

While Kachara is a holder of CAF C license, he has led Rovers well on two occasions. He is the same man who guided Gusha into the elite league in 2015 and in 2017. Indications are that the club is negotiating with former ZPC Kariba team manager and Simba Bhora assistant coach Paul ‘Popopo’ Chimalizeni for the job.

Kachara’s assistant coach Shepherd Muradzikwa is currently in charge of the team till December 31. Goalkeepers Coach Ndukwani Simango is now coaching the juniors team.
