MUTARE-City of Mutare is embarking on the construction of a clinic in the sprawling suburb of Hobhouse where it has been renting a house for US$ 300 a month and using it as a clinic.
Mutare City Ward 17 councillor John Nyamhoka confirmed the development to Chipinge Times and said the clinic’s contracted constructor is already working on the foundation.
Nyamhoka also said that the funds for the construction were served over a five-year period.
“The contractor is already on the ground digging the foundation. We served the money over a five-year period because our revenue streams were not adequate for us to kick start the project.
“We urge residents to continue paying their rates as this is what enables us to embark on such projects. If residents default on paying rates council is crippled and there will be no development in the city. This is a community project and residents should take charge,” said Cllr Nyamhoka.
A source at Mutare City said that the clinic will have a maternity wing and offer dental services.
“Expecting mothers have had to travel to Victoria Chitepo or St Joseph hospitals for antenatal and postnatal services but that will be a thing of the past as the clinic will have a maternity ward. There will also be a dental section. We don’t expect the clinic to be opened in 2023 but a groundbreaking ceremony will most likely be held next week,” said the source.
