MUTARE – Talk of transformation and vision for development, Mutare Acting Town Clerk Antony Mutara was the toast of the Manicaland Megafest Awards when he was adjudged the best business transformation leader in the Province.
His local authority also walked away with two other first awards thereby harvesting the largest number of awards of the night. The Mayor, Blessing Tandi attended the function.
The judges’ citation found a lot of distinction in the results being achieved by Mutare City, the country’s third largest town. The awards were held at Golden Peacock Hotel on Friday night.
The judges said, Mutare third biggest city in the country has arguably the cleanest drinking water in the country and the process of repairing roads has taken big positive change. The judges gave an example of Magamba and Goeff roads which are now in very good states.
The judges also took note of the 8km Dangamvura water supply pipeline which is nearing completion. The project will have a big impact on city by ending water woes that bedevilled Dangamvura residents for 20 years.
Mutare City walked away with two other big prizes making it the entity that harvested the largest number of prizes.
The city’s finance director Blessing Kapuya Chafesuka was adjudged the best Chief Finance Officer of the Year.
Meanwhile Mutare was adjudged the best Urban Council of the Year winning a Platinum medal.
“We attribute the awards to our residents and ratepayers as they are the most important constituency in the city. The prizes are an indication of the right direction that the city is taking,” said Spren Mutiwi the Council’s public relations manager.
