CHIREDZI- Former Zanu PF Chiredzi West legislator and Central Committee member Farai Dumo Msikavanhu is suing three party members over WhatsApp messages in which they allegedly accused him of causing a party candidate to lose last week’s election.
Court papers dated August 29, 2023, seen by The Mirror show that Musikavanhu is suing Sabudu Seva of 638 Woodpecker Road, Chiredzi, Natasha Zvada of 3738 Chademana Road, and Farai Tsuma of 2694 Jamela Street, Tshovani, Chiredzi.
The papers were served through Kwirira and Magwaliba Legal practitioners.
The trio allegedly accused Musikavanhu of campaigning against the party’s Chiredzi Central candidate Francis Moyo who lost to Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidate Ropafadzo Makamure.
Msikavanhu lost Zanu PF’s primary election for Chiredzi Central to Moyo.
“Following upon the defeat of the Zanu PF candidate for Chiredzi Central, Francis Moyo we have been furnished with extracts of your written utterances posted on a WhatsApp group.
“We are alive to the provision of section 61 of the constitution of Zimbabwe, Amendment No 20 which guarantees freedom of Expression and Freedom of the media. However, the constitution is clear that the exercise of such right is not absolute but subject to certain limitations,” reads part of the served papers.
In some of the messages seen and heard by The Mirror, Musikavanhu is accused of allegedly paying the electorate to vote against Moyo.
Musikavanhu also informed the group of his decision to sue the trio.
“I would like to inform you that I have initiated legal proceedings against certain persons for the defamatory, malicious, and false utterances against my person on this Chiredzi Central WhatsApp platform over the period August 24-27, 2023.
