Mushagashe Quarantine overflows with returnees again

Masvingo – The number of returnees at Mushagashe, the biggest quarantine center in Masvingo has shot up from 14 to 120 in two days and this is attributed to more people returning to Zimbabwe from South Africa.

The returnees were 14 on Tuesday last week and had increased by 106 on Thursday, Masvingo Provincial Covid-19 Taskforce spokesperson Rodgers Irimayi has said.

Irimayi told The Mirror that returnees with 48 hour Covid test certificates are allowed to enter the country without going through quarantine. Those who have no certificates are held at the centres while they wait for results of their tests which can be anything above two days.

Mushagashe is the biggest quarantine center with a capacity to hold 144 inmates.

“The borders are open again and many people who were trapped outside the country are now coming home. The festive season is also drawing closer and the number is likely to increase,” said Irimayi.

Rupangwana, Mbira and Mucheke DDF quarantine centers currently have no inmates.
