Murambinda couple robbed of US$1 200

BUHERA– A Buhera couple had a nerve-racking Valentine’s Day after three armed robbers got away with their property and US$1 200 cash before bludgeoning their feet with a hoe handle.

Manicaland Police Spokesperson Inspector Nobert Muzondo confirmed the incident and said nothing has been recovered.

Takwana Makumbe (38) and his wife Paidamoyo Makumbe (32) of 4014 Chengoma in Buhera were robbed after they forgot to lock their door. The armed robbers pounced on them at around 1 am armed with a hoe handle and a machete.

Muzondo said the couple lost a 42-inch television set, a pistol with 5 rounds of ammunition, three Samsung cellphones and an Iphone 7.

“Takwana Makumbe (38) of 4014 Chengoma in Buhera and his wife Paidamoyo Makumbe (32) retired to bed on Sunday around 9 pm and forgot to lock their doors. During the early hours of Valentine’s eve, at around 1 am three unknown male adults wearing face masks gained entry into the house using the unlocked door and headed straight to the bedroom where the couple was sleeping demanding cash,” Inspector Muzondo said.

The couple was ordered the couple to lie down and assaulted under the feet using the hoe handle, they were then tied with shoe laces and locked in one of the spare bedrooms as the robbers escaped with the valuables.

The couple managed to free themselves and reported the matter at Murambinda Police station before they were taken to Murambinda Mission Hospital for treatment.
