MSU adjudged Best Tertiary Institution at ZNCC Awards

GWERU – The Midlands State University (MSU) was adjudged the Best Tertiary Institution 5.0 Implementer Award at the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (Midlands Chamber) Annual Business Awards held at a local lodge in Gweru last week.
The honour came as a result of its successful implementation of Education 5.0.
Runner-ups in the category were Gweru Polytechnic and Kwekwe Polytechnic respectively.
MSU Vice Chancellor Victor Muzvidziwa hailed the recognition and described it as a testimony to the University’s commitment to Education 5.0. He acknowledged the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education for the support it renders to the University’s 5.0 programmes.
The Education 5.0 philosophy says the country’s education system must drive a country’s industrialization and development. Teaching, research, community engagement, innovation and industrialization are the five pillars of the Education 5.0 philosophy.
MSU has set up strategic business units such as its agro-processing unit, Coal Tar processing plant, the MSU Enterprise Unit, the MSU National Language Institute and the National Pathology, Research and Diagnostics Centre.
MSU has also successfully launched start-up companies through the Innovation Hub under the Research and Innovation Division. It also made strides in the Agrobusiness.
“This achievement underscores the University’s commitment to nurturing a culture of innovation, research and industrialisation spirited by the heritage-based Education 5.0 blueprint in line with the government’s vision of becoming an upper middle income economy,” said Prof Muzvidziwa.
MSU students won a number of awards at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) this year for their 5.0 projects.
MSU Law School students also qualified for the World Finals Moot Court Competition to be held in Geneva, Switzerland next month.
