Mpandawana residents get $3,2m in Netone lines

Gutu- Some 810 vulnerable residents of Ward 33 and 34 in and around Mpandawana in Gutu have received a Netone line each with RTGS$4 000 (about US$50) to cushion them against the economic effects of Covid19.
This was disclosed to The Mirror by the Chiedza Tafirei, the District Development Co-ordinator for Gutu. She said that the lines were distributed through the Department of Social Welfare.
The lines were given to vendors, sex workers, touts, small business people and people living from hand to mouth. She however said that the distribution is still going on and she was therefore not sure of the exact number of people who had received the sim cards.
Government made an undertaking to cushion the nation against Covid19 at the beginning of lockdowns in March last year. Thousands of people all over the country registered for the programme .
People particularly vendors were affected by the lockdowns as they could not go out to buy and sell goods.
Blessing Matonhodze, a builder said he is grateful to Government for the money. He said he was severely affected by the lockdowns as he had no work to do. He said he was going to use the money to buy groceries for his family.
