MASVINGO – Yesteryear Gutu sungura kingpins Mpandawana Knight riders are set to release their sixth album after a 17-year long hiatus.
The new album, Kuchema kwehanga has six tracks Vapei rudo, Akandinyepera, Usafa nechaunoziva, Kuchema kwehanga, Padhuze navo and Kupfuma kwakashata.
Band leader Wellington Mareva told The Mirror that the album is being released due to pressure from their fans.
“Kuchema kwehanga is a six track album which speaks on African culture. We yielded to pressure from our fans and we apologise for not releasing an album in 17 years. My wife Rudo Ngorima and several DJ’S also urged me to release this project,” said Mareva.
The band members include Onisimo Hwekwete, Gift Wonder, John Manyozo, Bhibho, Simbarashe Chitetere and Diesel Power Zvomuya.
The album was produced by Jabulani Ndhlovu of Trutone Studios in Harare.
Mareva said they took 17 years to release a new project because he was working abroad where his music genre was unpopular.
Mpandawana Knight riders have six albums namely Vabereki vanokosha (1998), Zvouchenjeri (2000), Farai Neidzi (2001), Hatidududzi (2002), Munotii Neidzi / Lithini Ngalezi (2003).
