Mozambican man murdered in Chimanimani over beer

CHIMANIMANI– A Mozambican national, Edson Muyambo, (30) of Sita Village Espunga, Beira, Mozambique died after he was stoned to death by his friend following a misunderstanding over a beer drink.
Manicaland Provincial Police spokesperson Inspector Nobert Muzondo confirmed the incident and said Police is worried over increasing murder cases in Chief Muusha’s area in Chimanimani.
Muyambo (30) was stoned by his friend Themba Mafiko of Mutsiyo Village under Chief Muusha, Chimanimani on February 10, 2023 around 5:30 pm at Gatawa tuck-shop, Botero Village under Chief Muusha.
Muzondo said that Muyambo and Mafiko were drinking beer at Gatawa tuck-shop when a misunderstanding arose. The two started fighting and Muyambo was allegedly overpowered by Mafiko which resulted in him picking up stones. Mafiko then started throwing at Muyambo.
Muyambo retreated but Mafiko continued attacking him and struck him on the back of the head. Muyambo he fell down bleeding profusely and He died on the spot. A Police report was filed on the same day leading to the arrest of Mafiko and Muyambo’s body was taken to Chipinge District Hospital for postmortem.
Muzondo said another murder happened in Chief Muusha’s area on December 31, last year. Wonder Munotsviva (36) of Pfumo Village under Chief Muusha who was drunk had an altercation with Blessing Nyabore which resulted in Munotsviva’s death.
He said most of the murders are a result altercations after misunderstandings and urged traditional leaders to bring sanity in the area.
“As Police we note with great concern that cases of this nature are on the rise especially in Chief Muusha’s area. We are calling upon traditional leadership to assist the Police in bringing sanity in that area. The general public should exercise refrain when faced with provoking situations,” said Muzondo.
