CHIPINGE – The Minister of Local Government and Public Works, July Moyo has approved Chipinge Town Council’s 2023 budget.
The approved budget is ZWL$4,3 billion.
Chipinge Town Council chairman Lovemore Mukwapati confirmed the approval and hailed the Minister for having done this early in the year thereby enabling the local authority to immediately embark on projects.
“We would like to advice members of the public and other stakeholders that our 2023 budget has been approved. We are however, yet to have our devolution and ZINARA allocations.
“Last year the total budget was ZWL$1,2 billion. Although the budget is four times bigger this year it is important to note that nothing has changed in US$ terms,” he said.
Mukwapati encouraged stakeholders and business community to pay their rates and licenses.
“We hope that this year the grants we expect from central government will be disbursed in time for us to be able to complete our projects especially those that are still work in progress due to the fact that we still await for the full payment of some of last year’s grants like Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP) and (Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (ZINARA).
The major projects include the upgrading of the water reticulation system from Bangazani Dam to households and this will be done in partnership with United Nations Office of Project Services (UNOPS).
“We are also upgrading our sewer systems in wards 4, 5 and 6,” he said.
