Mountaineers storms into Pro50 finals

MUTARE-Mountaineers’ coach Njabulo Ncube has praised his charges after they brushed aside Eagles and stormed into the Pro50 championship finals
The Mountains Goats as Mountaineers are known as qualified for the finals on Sunday with a tie against Eagles in a closely fought match played at Mutare Sports Club.

Mountaineers were bowled out for 239 in 44.1 overs, their highest score being 66 runs coming from PJ Moor. On the other hand Eagles were 239 all out in 39.4 overs and their best score coming from Kadeem Alleyne who scored 76 runs. The match ended in a tie.

Mountaineers pace bowler Victor Nyauchi bowled well to take three wickets for 28 in 10 overs.
Mountaineers who are the defending champions finished second on the log standing behind log leaders Rhinos who sealed their place in the Pro50 Championship final after defeating the early tournament leaders, Tuskers, by 50 runs in their last round-robin match at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on Sunday.

The two sides will now meet in the Pro50 Championship final penciled for Saturday at Kwekwe Sports Club.

“We are playing in Kwekwe.There has been many positives from game one up to the eighth game. Everyone has contributed and those are good signs going into the final. It gives confidence to everyone to carry the team on Saturday,” said Ncube.

The former Zimbabwe International also saluted the local fans for coming out in numbers in all their home matches.
“It’s good to have everyone in the squad strongly believing we can keep the Trophy. Our loyal supporters have been with us in all the home games that we played and their support has given us hope and courage to keep going in the tough games we have played,” he said.
He also declares his charges ready for the Saturday game.
“Our batters have had some good starts, they just need to convert and bat long. Our middle order batters have been very good, they just need to keep entertaining the fans. Our bowlers have managed to defend whatever total we have posted.Nyauchi (Victor) has been leading the attack very well. Young Vincent Masekesa has been bowling beautiful leg spin and contributing a lot with his fielding,” said the youthful gaffer.
