Mountaineers date Rhinos in Pro50

MUTARE-Mountaineers have a tricky encounter when they play the defending champions , Rhinos in Zimbabwe’s national one day cricket competition-Pro50 championship this morning at Mutare Sports Club.
Kick-off time is 930am.
Rhinos will be eager to get their campaign to a good start as they seek to defend their title but it is the Mountain Goats as Mountaineers are fondly known as who will enjoy the privilege of playing at home and will go into this encounter as favourites.
The 50 over tournament kicked off on November 11 but it is Mountaineers first one day action of the season.
Newly appointed Mountaineers coach Dave Houghton said he is expecting a tough encounter.
“Obviously we want to get off to a winning start in the 50 over competition. In a short format of only 8 games, it’s important to start well.
We also don’t have many opportunities to play at our home in Mutare. Therefore, it is even more important to make our home our fortress. All the teams have good sides, so there are no easy fixtures, but I expect us to be at our best on Wednesday and Friday and hopefully pull off two wins,” said Houghton.
The Mountain Goats last won Pro50 in the 2013-14 season.
Rhinos will meet Mountaineers again on Friday. Mountaineers will host Rocks on November 29 and December 1 at the same venue.
The final match is slated for January 7, 2022.
