Mixed grill at the September Hub Unconference

HARARE – The 10th edition of Hub Unconference, Zimbabwe’s leading event on digital media and the creative economy to be held in Harare in September will be a mixed grill, with leading international musicians, comedians and academics making presentations. The event will take place from September 24 to 25 at Moto Republik, according to a statement released to The Mirror by one of the event organizers, Gracious Nyathi of Magamba Network. The theme focuses on encouraging young people to embrace AI and adopt technological advancement for positive results. Among the presenters are prominent journalist and academic, Dr Millie Phiri from Conversation Africa; Kenyan Comic, Justine Wanda; Senegalese musician, Makhtar Fall widely known as Xuman; Antonio Kisemboi from Media-Challenge Initiative Hub (Uganda); Steve Horn from Politically Aweh (South Africa), Nkosinathi Mcetywa from Civic Tech Innovation Network and leading Zimbabwean academic Professor Nehemiah Chivandikwa. Some of the topics to be tackled are; emerging trends in media, climate jusCzech tourist acquitted but will stay on in prison tice, civic tech, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). “Zimbabwe’s leading annual gathering on digital media, Civic tech, and the creative economy, Hub UnConference is excited to announce a remarkable roster of local and international speakers, drawing from industry leaders in various sectors. “The 10th edition of the Hub UnConference is running under the theme Level Up, a clarion call for young people to keep up with emerging trends such as AI and adopt technology for the good,” read the statement. Takudzwa Masakasa, the Hub Co-ordinator also spoke on the event. “We will have some really exciting new elements to the programme as we investigate how amid conflict, misinformation, and environmental crises, we can leverage digital media, civic technology, and artistic activism to ‘level up’ by amplifying the voices of youth, women, and marginalised communities, fostering Impactful dialogues, and seeking solutions to significant societal and global challenges,” said Masakasa. Moreover the event will feature the Open Africa Data Summit which will convene influential bloggers, scholars, prominent activists and developers from Africa’s foremost open data initiatives. “This year’s Open Africa Data Summit will highlight speakers from five African Nations showcasing innovative ideas and initiatives in open data field,” read the statement.
