MASVINGO – Rowleen Mataru is Miss Heroes Zimbabwe after being crowned at a function held at Chevron hotel two weeks ago.
The theme of the pageant was; We salute, we remember and we honour.
Rowleen who is doing her Advanced Level at Victoria High School studying Arts was venturing into competitive modelling for the first time. For winning the pageant she has not been given any prize yet.
The organisers did not crown runner-ups this time around due to covid-19 so they only had the winner.
Because of Covid the function was held with no audience. Interviews were done virtually.
Judges said in their comments that her cat-walk style was good but she should work on improving self-esteem and confidence. The judges were Director of MG Modelling Agency Gayly Mhonderwa and male model and actor Summer Calvin Severa.
The pageant was sponsored by Gayly Mhonderwa, the Minister of State Ezra Chadzamira, and Flamboyant Hotel. It is held annually because it has a lot of civic education enough to educate youths about their country.
The Sponsor and Organiser of the event Gayly Mhonderwa said that as a modelling director, she would like to uplift the plight of girl child and increase her participation in the economic growth of the country.
“I groom models and teach them on how to be successful. I took this love from my late mother and I have groomed so many successful models,” said Mhonderwa.
Rowleen was born in 2002 on December 22 in a family of three girls and she is the eldest. She said that she never had anyone being her biggest inspiration to her modelling career but she has always believed in herself. At Vic High she is doing Arts subjects, History, Shona and Family and Religious Studies. Her mother is Melody Mataru and her step-father is Timothy Manyemba.
She started modelling this year. She had never tried it out before.
Rowleen said the secret of her success at Miss Heroes was that she was focused and had faith in the Almighty. Her ambition is to become a lawyer one day.
“I never let fear or doubt come my way. I thank God for this. I am grateful to my siblings, the modelling Director, Gayly Mhonderwa and Masvingo Minister of state and Provincial Affairs Ezra Chadzamira for giving an opportunity to young talent to shine,” said Rowleen.
