HARARE – Virginia Holmes- Takaona, a Masvingo Mirror board member was on Monday elected vice president of the Zimbabwe Publishers Association, the biggest grouping of publishers in the country.
Takaona was elected in absentia.
The Association brings together publishers from community up to national media houses. Its mandate is to safeguard the interests of publishers and it engages Government on issues that affect the media sector including media laws, Press freedom and business related matters like cost of importing inputs like newsprint, ink and printing plates.
Another important agenda occupying the Association is the formation of the National Employment Council of the News Industry.
Zimpapers CEO Pikirai Deketeke was elected president while Benson Mbewe of ABC is the second vice president. Willie Mponda was elected secretary general while Alpha Media Holdings editor in chief Mudzungairi was elected treasure. Nelson Mashiri was elected committee member.
Takaona said she was humbled by the trust that fellow publishers had in The Mirror by setting us such an important post for someone from the company. She said she was going to be supportive of all activities of the publishers’ association.
Virginia Takaona is also the director of Gutu Mirror Healthcare International, a thriving home-based care company that is in the UK. The company has currently been recruiting nurses into its service from Zimbabwe.https://masvingomirror.com
