Masvingo – Dean Nyamurenje, an artisan assistant at Zimplats’ Bimha Mine was killed in a mine accident two weeks ago.
Investigations to establish what exactly happened have been instituted but initial reports indicate that he was fatally squashed between a conveyor belt and a pulley drum while underground.
The Mirror has in its possession a statement by the senior general manager, Simbarashe Goto which confirms the accident.
The statement says Nyamurenje was assisting an artisan fitter to slacken a tensioned belt (CVB403) to identify a tracking problem when disaster struck.
It is thought that in the process of adjusting the belt tension using a winch, the conveyor belt suddenly moved with the deceased in the danger zone. It is suspected that he fell and was squashed between the conveyor belt and a pulley drum sustaining head and chest injuries in the process.
Efforts to get a comment from Zimplats Public relations manager, Busi Chindove were futile.https://masvingomirror.com/
