ZVISHAVANE– A Mimosa Mining Company security guard was remanded in custody on Monday for allegedly stealing tyres and welding rods worth US$13 994 from the mine. Brian and his accomplice Vengai Kambarami allegedly stole 145 size 15 tyres and 50kg welding rods between November 2021 and May 2022.

The court heard that sometime in November 2021, Brian and Vengai gained entry through a window into the mining warehouse and stole 50kg of welding rods. In May 2020, the duo broke into the same warehouse and stole 145 size 15 tryes. It is not clear how they transported the tyres from Mimosa Mine to Zvishavane.

Prosecutor Moreblessing Chanada told the court that the stolen tyres were sold in Mandava, Chivi and Mashava. People selling tyres at Mandava implicated Brian and Vengai that led to the arrest of Vengai who is already in remand prison. Tyres valued at US$2 610 were recovered.

Zvishavane Magistrate Evia Matura remanded Brian Kambarami (24) to June 27, 2022.
