Mberengwa – Mimosa Platinum in Zvishavane has donated 1 000ltr water tanks, one each to 16 chiefs in Mberengwa.
Mimosa general manager, Stephen Ndiyamba said the tanks are to be used as domestic water reservoirs particularly during the Covid19 pandemic where hygiene and sanitation are critical.
The mining company also drilled a borehole at Yoko Business Centre in Mberengwa and is looking at drilling another at Mberengwa Turnoff.
Ndiyamba added that the intervention is also part of the company’s programme to improve livelihoods of members of the community where the giant mining company operates.
Mberengwa has 16 substantive Chiefs who are faced with perennial water challenges. Mimosa is delivering the containers to the chiefs through the District Development Coordinator in liaison with Senator Ngungubani.
“Mimosa has so far provided tanks to 12 chiefs and the remaining four will benefit from the programme in due course.
“Taking the same concept from Zunde Ramambo, Mimosa believes that the chief’s homestead is home for all community members and capacitating the chief is capacitating the community. Community members surrounding the chief’s homestead also benefit from any initiative that is done at the chief’s homestead,” said Ndiyamba.
One of the beneficiaries, Chief Chingoma said the tanks are not just good for the chief’s family but will be used during traditional court hearings. He expressed his gratitude to the mining company.
