ZVISHAVANE – Platinum mining giants Mimosa has donated 100 cattle to Mhondongori Ward 5 and Kromedraai Ward 19.
The donation was made at a colorful function held at Mtshingwe Primary School under Chief Mafala on Thursday last week.
The handover ceremony was graced by Mimosa Mine Human Resources manager George Mawere and Zvishavane-Ngezi MP Dumizweni Mahwite was the guest of honour.
Chiefs Masunda, Mafala and Mapanzure were also present at the ceremony.
The donation comes a few days after the company won the best Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) award due to its continued engagement with communities.
The donation comprised of 50 bulls and 50 heifers. Mimosa has under the programme earlier donated 330 bulls and 109 heifers.
The donation is in line with the company’s mantra of investing beyond mining and a continuation of the livestock revitalisation scheme started in 2015. The project has seen the mining giants buying a car for Zvishavane Veterinary Services to be used for monitoring the project. The mine has also refurbishment four dip tanks in the area.
Speaking on behalf of Mimosa GM Stephen Ndiyamba, Mawere said they will continue to invest beyond mining and see that nearby communities benefit from their existence in the area.
“As Mimosa we want to leave a living legacy to people around us and this project is a continuation of the livestock revitalization scheme, we started in 2015 and thus we will continue to inject support till positive results come out. In 2020 Mimosa launched an artificial insemination programme to compliment the breeding bull’s programme so as to accelerate herd genetics and health improvement. l am pleased the programme has been successful and we have started to realize calves born from this initiative. “
Mahwite said the company is in line with the President’s vision 2030 of becoming an upper middle-income economy and investing in livestock will make the country achieve such a goal. https://masvingomirror.com
