GWERU – Four Midlands rural district councils (RDCs) and one town council are proud winners of the Buy Zimbabwe Awards.
They received their awards sponsored by Zimbabwe Consolidated Mining Company and Zinrara at the Buy Zimbabwe 2022 Public Procurement Conference held at the Harare International Conference Center recently.
The five are Vungu RDC, Zibagwe RDC, Tongogara RDC, Chirumanzu RDC and Gokwe Town Council.
The Buy Zimbabwe concept is a bid to promote locally produced goods and reduce the country’s dependence on imports. It also promotes the fight against corruption.

The councils received prizes for procuring locally made goods.
Buy Zimbabwe is chaired by broadcaster and communications expert, Munyaradzi Hwengwere. It was launched in March 2011.
Zibagwe RDC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Farai Machaya said he is humbled by the award and hailed the awards for entrenching a culture of competition at the same time ensuring transparency and accountability in public resource management.
“As Zibagwe RDC, we feel highly honoured for the recognition we received at the just-ended public procurement conference held in Harare.
“We are also proud as Midlands that we came tops in the rating, and we attribute this success story to the able leadership and guidance of the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs, Senator Larry Mavima,” he said.

Gokwe Acting Town Secretary Alexander Nyandoro echoed the same sentiments saying the recognition was a success story of upholding good corporate governance.
“As Gokwe Town Council, we are delighted to be honored with this recognition which reflects our greatest achievements and we attribute this to hard work and transparency within our procurement processes,” he said.
Nyandoro pledged to complement the Buy Zimbabwe campaign by making budget allocations and procurement procedures that are aimed at ensuring acceleration and development of the country’s value chains.

Three district councils in Masvingo won the same awards. These are Masvingo City Council, Chivi RDC and Gutu RDC.
Other winners include ZINARA, ARDA, Bitumen World and Netone.
The conference held this year comes at a time when the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (PRAZ) is working on several reforms to curb corruption in councils, private companies and other organizations.https://masvingomirror.com
