Memorial, book launch for Nyabinde on Saturday

GWERU – Saturday is a big day for the music industry with the memorial service, book launch and a gig for the late jazz maestro Bob Nyabinde taking place in Mbizo, Kwekwe on Saturday.
Nyabinde’s son Agga confirmed the programme to The Mirror.
The 380-page book on Nyabinde was written by Munyaradzi Huni. The book launch could not take place last year because of Nyabinde’s illness.
Agga said that the memorial service will be held at Nyabinde popularly known as the headmaster’s house at Number 1096/16 Mbizo while the mini -jazz festival will take place at Gulez Gardens in Kwekwe.
Artists like Kireni Zulu, Agga and Albert Nyabinde, Steve Makoni, Victor Kunonga among others will be performing.
Nyabinde who became visually impaired died at the age of 68 in December last year after battling long diabetes. Senior Government officials are expected at the memorial.
Nyabinde was born on March 10,1955 in Mutare. He trained at Mutare Teachers’ College and worked as a teacher and headmaster before he retired.
He ventured into the music industry and formed the Savannah Drive Band which plays Afro Jazz. His first album ‘Panenyaya’ made history with the famous song ‘Chabuda Hapana ‘which was well-received by his legion of fans.
