Meet Masvingo’s first PSL female referee

MASVINGO – Masvingo Province has its first female referee in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL).
Talkmore Mvute (25) was upgraded to the PSL panel last Monday after serving the Women’s Soccer League (now Heart League) from 2022.
She told The Mirror in a wide ranging interview that she is elated by making it into the male dominated PSL.
She was the fourth official at the FC Platinum vs Bikita Minerals FC match at Mandava Stadium on Sunday.
Mvute who hails from Mapanzure, Masvingo added that she is proud to be part of the growing number of female referees in the PSL.
“I am elated to be a pace setter for other women who want to pursue careers in sport. One step at a time does it. I urge all women not to shy from their passions because of societal norms.
“Some may believe that one connections to make it here or one might believe that there is gender discrimination but i am as an example that it’s possible if you work hard towards your goal,” she said.
“I am also pursuing a career in volleyball. I am training to a coach and referee for the sport. I am passionate about sports and want to further my studies,” she said.
Prior to referring the world’s beautiful game, Mvute, played as a midfielder for the indomitable lions of Chidyamakono High School, Chivi and received a Copa Coca Cola scholarship in 2015.
The indomitable lions made history by clinching the girls’ Copa Coca Cola national trophy five times in a row from 2013 – 2017. Mvute was part of the team from 2015 to 2016
Apart from her football career, she is a qualified school teacher and is graduating at Morgenster Teachers College in September.
She was born into a family of six on May 9, 1999, at Morgenster Mission.
Mvute did her primary at Muchenurwa in Masvingo rural and enrolled at Mapanzure High School for her secondary education.
She then went to Chidyamakono before enrolling at Morgenster Teachers College.
