BEITBRIDGE – The MDC T led by Douglas Mwonzora which claims to control the opposition in Parliament and councils throughout the country has failed to field a single candidate in Beitbridge at the close of the nomination court today.
There are two vacant ward posts and ironically Mwonzora who recalled the elected councilors failed to field anyone for the March 26, 2022 by-elections.
The Mirror attended the close of the nomination court where Acting District Elections Officer for Beitbridge, Adrian Muyambo made the announcement.
The contest in the vacant wards is now between Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) registered by Nelson Chamisa yesterday and Zanu PF.
In ward 4, under the CCC Party, recalled Beitbridge Mayor Morgan Ncube is contesting against Lawrence Tshili of ZANU PF.
Lawrence Tshili came third in the ZANU PF primary elections but he was fielded by the party ahead of the first two allegedly because the latter’s names are not registered in the wards they wanted to contest in.
In ward 5, Granger Nyoni who was also recalled is representing the CCC against Zanu PF’s Showa Moyo who was the council chairperson from 2013-2018.
