KWEKWE – Mbizo Cricket Club is hopeful of a top eight finish in the National Premier League after winning two fixtures last week and climbing from tenth to sixth on the log.
Prior to the two fixtures, Mbizo was tenth on the log with 30 points and is now sixth with 50 points.
The club won its fixtures against Scorpions Cricket Club at Masvingo Sports Club and against Knights Cricket Club at Kwekwe Sports Club.
Club coach Ronald Masocha said their performance is superb and they are targeting to compete in the Super 8.
“Our play was very good in the last two games. Everyone contributed towards the wins. We used to rely on Ahsan Aqil Ali only but now Walter Manson and Chomudondo are scoring runs and taking good wickets for the team. We need to win at least four games in our next fixtures so that we secure our position in the top eight,” he said.
Mbizo bowled Scorpions out for 77 runs in 31.2 overs. The club had been bowled out for 146 runs in 29.5 overs.
Bowlers Ahsan Aqil Ali claimed four wickets, Jabulisa Tshuma and Michael Chinouya claimed two each while Chiemelie Udekwe claimed a wicket.
Aqil Ali was named player of the match. He also had 35 runs including three fours from 60 balls.
In Saturday’s fixture, Knights were bowled out for 108 in 33.1 overs. Mbidzo bated first and posted an impressive 307 /7 in 45.0 Overs.
