MBERENGWA– A Mberengwa woman has been sentenced to 350 hours of community service for assaulting her alleged lover’s 60-year-old wife with a wooden fence dropper.

Mberengwa Magistrate Mehluli Moyo commuted Farisai Shoko’s 15 months sentence to 350 hours community service. She is going to perform the community service at Chamakudo Pre-school.

Shoko (49) of Tagwirei Village under Chief Mataga assaulted Jestina Mawisire (60) of Dhibha Village, Chief Mataga with a wooden fence dropper and left her unconscious with fractured hands and a head injury.

Magistrate Moyo sentenced Shoko to 15 months in prison, suspended five months on condition that she does not commit a similar offence in the next five years. The remaining 10 months were suspended on condition that she completes 350 hours of community.

Prosecutor Ali Mutause told the court that on June 8, 2022 at around 10 pm, Vote Mawisire (56) and his wife Jestina went to Shoko’s homestead where Vote was drinking beer with other patrons.

Jestina and Mawisire had an altercation and Jestina began shouting at her husband. She left the room and went outside where she confronted Shoko accusing her of having an affair with Mawisire.

This did not go well with Shoko who picked up a wooden fence dropper which was in her yard and struck Jestina with it all over the body. Jestina tried to run back into the room but she fell down at the door steps and became unconscious.

She was ferried to United Bulawayo Hospitals where she was examined. It was concluded that she sustained fractured hands and a deep cut on the head.
