MBERENGWA-Magistrate Charity Tonongera has sentenced a Mberengwa habitual thief to an effective two years and three months in jail for theft and house breaking.
Fidius Maidza (32) of Chidanhika Village, Chief Mapiravana, Mberengwa was slapped with a two year jail sentence for stealing from a shop at Yorks Business Centre and from Blessed Zhou (21) of Hibbo mine, Mberengwa.
Three months of the sentence had been put aside in a previous robbery case. Maidza’s two accomplices, Antony Gumbo and Mike Sibanda are still at large.
Prosecutor Ali Mutause told the court that on February 22, 2023 the trio broke into a shop where Gladys Mushavira (35) is employed as a shopkeeper and stole six formal trousers, 16 jean trousers and two track bottoms. They then proceeded to Zhou’s house after noting that he was not at home and used an iron bar to force open the door and they stole an Itel A58 cellphone and clothes.
Maidza was arrested by members of the community at Hibbo Mine compound on the same day after he was seen with some of the stolen clothes.
