MBERENGWA – A Mberengwa man died after being pelted with bottles when he attempted to refrain three men from assaulting his brother for allegedly letting his cattle stray into a road.
Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident that occurred last Monday to The Mirror.
He said they are appealing for information leading to the arrest of Jonathan Sibanda (19) of Nkanyezi Village under Chief Mtevaidze and Albert Dube (19) of Macatsha Village under Chief Bangwe and a third unidentified accomplice.
The trio allegedly pelted Shadrack Ndlovu of Magwegwe Village under Chief Mtevaidze with bottles and whipped him all over the body when he attempted to stop them from assaulting Thandolwenkosi Mubheni (41).
Circumstances are that Mubheni was penning cattle with his son (12). Dube, Sibanda and their accomplice passed through his homestead in a scotch cart. They were drinking beer and accused him of letting his cattle stray into the road they were using.
A misunderstanding arose and Sibanda began assaulting Mubheni using sticks. Ndlovu rushed to stop the fight and he was pelted with bottles and whipped. The trio ran away when he fell on the ground unconscious. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Mahoko urged villagers to resolve their differences amicably. “We appeal to members of the public to respect the sanctity of life and avoid engaging in violence which put lives in danger. Three suspects have not been arrested and we appeal for information on their whereabouts,”he said. Mahoko.
