Mberengwa man axed after watching international football match

MBERENGWA – A 27-year-old man from Mberengwa was struck twice with an axe in the head and once in the back soon after he left a shop where he was watching football on television and went to sit outside.

The incident happened at Mandava Business Centre in Mberengwa on Sunday and Police is yet to establish the motive for the murder. 

Acting Midlands Police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Fungai Ngawagare confirmed the incident to The Mirror and said the perpetrator is on the run. 

“Police is investigating a case of murder which occurred at Mandava Business Centre in Mberengwa. The victim Sibonginkosi Matavire Pisa was struck by Gina Mangena with an axe and he died on the spot,” he said. 

Pisa was watching football at Chauke Bar at around 5 pm and then went outside and sat on the veranda. Mangena allegedly approached him from the behind holding an axe and without saying a word, struck Pisa twice on the head and once on the back.

Pisa fell unconscious and Mangena fled. 

Pisa’s body was taken to Mberengwa Hospital for postmortem.
