Mberengwa – Charity Mpofu who is just 18 has appeared in court after dumping her seven months old baby in a bush after the husband had refused to provide for the infant.
Mpofu of Clifton 10 Mine, Mberengwa appeared before the local resident Magistrate Evia Matura facing charges of exposing an infant.
Mpofu pleaded guilty and blamed her actions on her husband Farai Chiramba (31) who refused to buy food for the baby. She said she had no means to look after the baby so she left the toddler asleep in the bush.
She was sentenced to 120 days in prison, wholly suspended for five years on condition she does not commit a similar offense.
On December 28, 2020 at around 2pm, Mpofu had a misunderstanding with Chiramba. After the dispute, the husband left Mpofu with the child at home. Mpofu then dumped the infant in a bush. At around 330pm the baby was found crying near Gamz Bar at Mberengwa Business Centre by Fungai Seremani who took it to the Police.
