Mberengwa farmers receive Presidential fodder

MBERENGWA – Over 300 farmers from York in Mberengwa have received silage, a type of fodder under the Presidential Silage program to safeguard the national herd in the face of the El Nino induced drought.
Midlands Province Agriculture and Rural Development Services Director Busiso Mavakeni confirmed the development to The Mirror.
He said the feed is being distributed to small scale farmers whose pastures have been affected.
Silage a type of preserved animal fodder made from green foliage crops which undergo fermentation to preserve the material.
“It is in this regard that more than 300 farmers in Mberengwa district have benefited from the Presidential silage program which will go a long way in preserving their herd. We want to thank the Government for launching this program in Mberengwa. This is the first of its kind in this district,” said Mavakeni.
Each household is expected to get a 50kg bag of silage to ensure that the animals received adequate nutrition through out the year.
Mikiel Shoko, a small scale farmer said Government’s initiative will improve the health of their herds.
