Mberengwa Cllr’s wife launches sanitary wear program for schools

MBERENGWA – Mberengwa East Ward 18 Councillor Believe Mataga’s wife, Celiwe has launched a monthly sanitary wear donation program for primary and secondary school girls in her area.
She told The Mirror that her program is supported by her husband. The local MP, Tasara Hungwe and his family are also supporting the program.
“The program will start with Grade 6 and 7 pupils at Gwehanga, Mudzidzi, Chaora and Sihande primary schools. Funye Secondary School will follow after that. We will donate 980 packets with each containing 10 sanitary pads. Our goal is providing a sustainable supply that can last four months covering the entire school term and holidays.
“Young girls are struggling to access sanitary wear and many struggle during their menstrual cycle. I am committed to ensuring that no girl in the community is left without the necessary supplies. The program also aims at educating and empowering young girls on menstrual hygiene and proper sanitary health,” she said.
Her husband said sanitary wear should be easily accessed by all girls in marginalized communities and the initiative will close the gap.
