MBERENGWA – Some 28 athletes from Mberengwa are receiving funds ranging from RTGS$2 000 to RTGS$5 000 depending on sports category to cushion them against the effects of the Covid19 lockdown.
Acting Youth, Sports and Arts District Development Officer, Omega Sibanda confirmed the development. Sibanda told The Mirror that the district received $112 000 from Harare and this money would now be distributed to athletes throughout the district by youth sports co-ordinators.
The money was received by the district last month. The purpose of the funds is to cushion athletes who depend on sports for income but are not getting anything currently because of the lockdown, said Sibanda.
The payments are once off. “The funds were received in April and distribution is done through youth coordinators and each beneficiary gets money according to the sport category ranging from 2000 to 5000 RTGS”, said Sibanda.
Some of the beneficiaries are Norah Moyo, Sarah Magama, Oscar Goka and Malcom Shiri. https://masvingomirror.com
