CHIPINGE – Ashirai Mawere of Sub Division 10 Delfounten Estate A in Chipinge who appeared before Chipinge Magistrate Courts facing fraud charges has been remanded out of custody to February 13.

Mawere is accused of selling a non-existent stand to Clever Sibiya (52, a pastor in the UK whose local address is Number 307 Fairview Road Borrowdale, Harare.

Prosecutor Delia Kataziye told the court that the two became friends after they met on WhatsApp sometime in 2020 and Sibiya then sought assistance from Mawere to get a piece of land.

Mawere then asked for US$6 150 for a 7-hectare piece of land at Plot number 25 Ravenwood Farm in Chipinge and Sibiya sent the money via World Remit Chipinge.

Mawere allegedly showed Sibiya’s son Tonderai Desmond a 7-hectare piece of land that does not belong to him and the latter was chased away by the owner of the land.

Sibiya discovered that he was defrauded by Mawere.

The case is before Magistrate Alfred Chinembiri and the accused is being represented by Tariro Tazvitya of Bere Brothers.
