Mavhenyengwa denounces political violence
MASVINGO-The ruling Zanu PF Masvingo province chairperson Rabson Mavhenyengwa has denounced violence and urged supporters to fight opposition parties in the ballot box.
He said this on Saturday during the Chivi Central parliamentary candidate Exevia Maoneke campaign launch at Daramombe High School grounds.
The Guest of Honour, Mavhenyengwa, said party members should not be involved in violence which has rocked most parts of the province with opposition parties, particularly Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC).
“We should not engage in violence. We are the people’s party. We should defeat the opposition in the ballot box. Zanu PF is now targeting six million votes.
“Everyone here is a commissar and should preach Zanu PF wherever they are. Convince your neighbours, friends and family to vote for Zanu PF on August 23, 2023, which has done tremendous work as you are all aware,” said Mavhenyengwa.
Mavhenyengwa said CCC is a puppet of Western countries who want to loot minerals and other resources in the country.
His sentiments come after an orgy of violence has exploded across the province ahead of the polls.
CCC president Nelson Chamisa’s recent visit to the province was marred with violent encounters in Chiredzi, Bikita and Gutu South.
Chiredzi Police used teargas to disperse CCC members waiting for Chamisa at Tshovani Stadium. Eight people were arrested and spent 13 days in remand prison.
