MASVINGO – CCC candidate for Masvingo Central in last year’s elections, Moses Mavhaire is building a preschool in remote Mamoti Village.
Mamoti is secluded and minor children have to cross a river to get to Machitenda Primary School which is about five km away.
The preschool currently has 45 learners and pupils abandon class when it rains or there are strong winds.
The project began in 2019 when Mavhaire donated cement that was used to construct the building until it reached roofing level. He donated roofing materials recently.
He told The Mirror that they are also seeking assistance from well-wishers for window frames, cement, paint, furniture and construction of a teachers’ house.
“We are building the preschool to make life easier for the village folk. The nearest school is five kilometres away and pupils have to cross a river to get there. This is not acceptable thus we began this project to ensure that pupils get services at their doorsteps.
“The project is still in the pipeline and we will see it through to fruition. Children have to abandon class when it rains or there are strong winds and this is an undesirable situation. We are for the people and have to better communities at every turn,” he said.
Mavhaire also donated 10kg bags of mealie meal to close almost 50 villagers at Rupike in Masvingo Central Ward 23. Neighbouring wards and villages also received the mealie meal.
“The mealie meal is being given to the needy, child headed families, People with Disabilities (PWD), those facing starvation and the elderly. This is a running program to ensure that no one goes hungry in the wake of the drought. We have done a similar project at Chesvingo Village and we will continue it,” he said.
The youthful politician has also donated vegetable seeds and knapsack sprayers to Zvinogona Garden, cement for the construction of St Thomas Mashate Catholic Parish and wheelchairs and groceries to Thandiwe and Absolom Mudadadzi at Zezai Village, Ward 18 under Chief Shumba.
