Matutu dumps Chamisa for ED

MASVINGO –Former Masvingo urban MDC MP Tongai Matutu has defected from MDC and has joined Zanu-PF, Provincial Zanu-PF spokesperson Ronald Ndava has confirmed.

Ndava confirmed the matter to The Mirror in a telephone interview.

“Matutu has joined Zanu-PF and we have accepted him. Everyone is welcome to join the people’s party,” said Ndava.

Efforts to get a comment from Matutu were futile.

Matutu was last year handed a five-year ban from participating in the MDC internal elections by the Nelson Chamisa led administration when he challenged James Gumbi for the provincial chairperson post.

Matutu is also serving a suspension from practicing law from the Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ).

MDC insiders told The Mirror that Matutu was tipped to take over the party’s provincial chairmanship after Gumbi was fired from the party by Douglas Mwonzora.
