MASVINGO- Forty small scale pig farmers from Zishumbe in Masvingo rural graduated with certificates after attending a day long Matmeag Pig Solutions workshop.
The workshop took place at KwaChaka Farm in Zishumbe under Chief Chikwanda on Sunday.
Matmeag co-founder Langton Chipunza and his wife Portia told The Mirror that their passion is the growth of small scale farmers.
They said that Masvingo is their tenth stop after Bulawayo, Gweru, Harare, Murehwa, Marondera, Mhangura, Seke Dema, Nyanga, Chinhoyi and Chihota. Their next stop is Hwange.
“We launched this workshop to help pig farmers in Zimbabwe thrive and to share knowledge that we have.
“We covered topics as breed selection, proper pig housing, feeding formula, and proper management,” he said.
Portia said their aim is to train and empower farmers who will supply pokers to the market.
“We are aiming to empower 10 farmers in Masvingo who will supply 10- 15 porkers per month through our mentoring programs of batch farrowing,” she said.
KwaChaka farm owner, Shamiso Chaka applauded the organisers for training small scale farmers.
“I want to thank the Chipunza family for launching this project here in Masvingo. I believe it will make a positive impact on our lives as farmers. We have gained knowledge about the pig business,” she said.
