MASVINGO – It never rains but pours for Zanu PF youth chairman for Masvingo Province, Delight Mandebvu.
Mandebvu who is currently facing trial for assaulting former Masvingo Mayor, Collen Maboke, his wife Tariro and a relative was reported to Bikita Police last Wednesday for allegedly producing a pistol and threatening to shoot Zimbabwe Diamond and Allied Minerals Workers Union (ZDAMWU) representatives during an exhibition at Bikita Minerals.
The incident happened during Workers’ Day Commemorations on May 1, 2024.
Mandebvu is also facing indecent assault charges emanating from the incident.
The new matter was reported under case number RRB 5766972 by ZDAMWU education and training officer Takawira Masocha.
Mandebvu accused ZDAMWU of fighting mine management. This followed a scathing report dated April 8, 2024, that alleged deteriorating industrial and community relations at Bikita Minerals.
Mandebvu allegedly ordered the officials to leave the exhibition after producing the pistol.
The complainants are Masocha, Dorcas Nerupiri (national youth coordinator), Vimbai Chinhema (gender and women coordinator), Queen Kusotera (insurance marketing officer) and Thelma Kanjoma (intern).
Kanjoma also filed an indecent assault report against Mandebvu after he allegedly groped her privates in an attempt to seize a mobile phone she was using to record the incident.
Meanwhile several workers unions led by the African Federation of Miners and Mineral Wealth (FAMMW) headquartered in Egypt have written solidarity letters condemning the attack and urging law enforcement to take up the matter.
Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister July Moyo to whom the solidarity letter is addressed said he was out of office when contacted for a comment.
