Masvingo TV Sales cleaner steals US$2.4k

MASVINGO–Magistrate Rethagtcetsi Silaigwana has remanded Tendai Butete (28), a general hand at TV Sales and Home, Masvingo, in custody to May 12, 2023, for allegedly stealing household goods worth US$2 478 from his employer.
Butete of 69096 Mbudzi, Victoria Ranch in Masvingo, appeared in court yesterday. He is an employee at the TV Sales and Home branch opposite OK Supermarket.
He is facing charges of stealing property, including two Cooker Defy 4 Burner Gas Hob, an LG sound bar, a Samsung home theatre and 3×30 watts solar panels between August 1, 2022, and February 22, 2023
Butete is responsible for cleaning the shop and offloading deliveries made to the shop.
Branch manager Irvine Masvaya (37) is the complainant who told the court that TV Sales and Home internal auditor Jacob Gwasira unearthed the matter in February 2023.
Prosecutor Progress Magara told the court that Butete was caught stealing various goods on Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV).
Butete sold some of the stolen wares in Mucheke.
He led Police details to recover a Cooker Defy 4 Burner Gas Hob and LG sound bar he had sold to Brain Masunda of Mucheke, Masvingo.
He also led the Police to recover a Cooker Defy 4 Burner Gas Hob, Samsung home theatre and 3×30 watts solar panels he had sold to Bruce Moyo in Bulawayo.
The serial numbers of the US$815.94 worth of property recovered matched the stolen property listed by Masvaya.
