CHIREDZI – The hospitality industry in Masvingo has reduced its tourism price package in compliance with a Government initiative aimed at promoting local arrivals, the Minister of State for Masvingo, Ezra Chadzamira has said.
Speaking at the launch of the ongoing Zimbho campaign in Chiredzi, Chadzamira said he was happy to note that hospitality players in the Lowveld have already reduced prices for hotels and other services offered to local tourists.
Chadzamira said that Government kickstarted the programme by exempting Value Added Tax (VAT) on all tourism services for domestic tourists.
The Mirror has since established that from the beginning of November 2021, all rates used will exclude VAT.
Chadzamira’s speech was read on his behalf by the director in his office, Kudakwashe Machako.
The Minister of State said because of the development more locals would now be able to visit such places as Chilojo Cliffs, Gonarezhou, Chipinda pools and Malilangwe in the province.
Zimbho campaign was launched in Kariba in November 2020 in a bid to promote domestic Tourism and has since reached different parts of the country.
‘’Charity begins at home and we want our local people to visit these places like Gonarezhou here in the Lowveld. Government has therefore exempted VAT on all tourism services for domestic tourists in a bid to reduce prices being charged on tourism products and services. We did this so that the locals are accommodated,’’ said Chadzamira.
“I am reliably informed that tourism industry players in the Loweld have already started offering affordable rates in response to the call for promoting domestic tourism and that is a good move, Government will continue looking at a way to make tourism affordable to the nationas and expects to see such incentives translating to price reduction in the sector for the benefit
of the domestic market.’’ he said.
Zimbabwe Tourism Authority area manager Marvellous Sengwe urged local tourists to visit destinations in the South Eastern Lowveld as prices for products were now affordable.
The launch of the campaign was graced by actors such as Eddie Sandifolo who featured in the movie, Gonarezhou. https://masvingomirror.com
