Masvingo publisher named among Zim’s top 50 women


MASVINGO – Angeline Mikiri, the founder of Shekinah Media has been named among Zimbabwe’s top 50 Outstanding and most inspirational women in 2020 to 2021.

Angeline is the publisher of Masvingo Business Directory Magazine and her organisation is also into marketing, advertising and public relations. She has of recent years become notable for linking the private and public sectors for purposes of development.

This year’s nominations were done under the theme; Women Driving Zimbabwe to Prosperity.

Angeline has initiated numerous development programmes in Masvingo involving large companies and Government and these include investment programs and women empowerment and community development programmes.

Some of the prominent women who made it into the top 50 are Tsitsi Masiyiwa, Beatrice Mtetwa, Olivia Charamba, Janet Manyowa and Mavis Mataranyika 

The list of Zimbabwe’s most influential women is compiled by the Institute of Corporate Directors Zimbabwe (ICDZ) in partnership with Women Corporate Directors Network.

ICDZ acting Chief Executive Officer, Proctor Nyemba commended the women for extending their work and inspiring other women in marginalized areas.

The women are selected on the basis of their work as it impacts communities and the list is drawn from all socio-economic sectors

The list was further endorsed by Professional Director and Government Solutions both from Canada, Hawkamah Institute for Corporate Governance and Institute of Corporate Governance Zimbabwe.

The list followed invitations to members of the public to nominate influential women in business and communities. The nominees were then taken through rigorous background checks to establish their worth until the long list was whittled down to 50.

“These women have conformed to global change; they have inspired even men to see the potential of women in business,” said Nyemba.

Mikiri who cut her teeth at Masvingo Mirror where she rose to become the marketing manager won the Best Africa Ambassador in Women Entrepreneurship award in January this year.

She is the current Women Entreprenuers Organisation Ambassador for Zimbabwe. She is the Board Chairperson of MyAge Trust. She is also sitting on the board of Masvingo Polytechnic and the Manager for Mufuka Foundation in Masvingo.

“I am humbled to have been nominated and most of all making it into the top 50. It came as a surprise. It is also important for me to acknowledge the three-year great mentorship I got at The Mirror as the head of the marketing department from 2007 to 2010,” said Angeline.

Shekinah Media started in 2012 in Masvingo. It has two Branches, in Masvingo and in Harare.
