Masvingo Police seizes 62kg dagga at roadblock

Masvingo – Detectives manning a roadblock along the Masvingo –Beitbridge Highway on Sunday recovered 62kgs of dagga (mbanje) that was hidden in a bus following a tip-off.
Masvingo Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the arrest in a statement released to The Mirror.
He said the arrest happened around 10am.
Those arrested are the bus driver, Tonderai Mafo (48) of Nkulumane in Bulawayo, the conductor Allen Mberikunashe (25) of Victoria Ranch, Masvingo, Paulina Mudakuvaka (36) of Ruwa, Harare and Alice Mutanda (68) of Glenview, Harare.
Circumstances are that Police details who were manning the roadblock received a tipoff that there passengers in possession of weed on the bus.
The officers then stopped the bus and instructed Mafo to pull off the road. Mafo, however sped away and the bus was pursued and stopped after a kilometer from the roadblock.
Mafo was arrested and the officers recovered six bags containing 28 rolled packets of dagga hidden on the bus chassis. The bus was driven to Masvingo Central Police for further searches.
Officers recovered several packets of dagga in a bag belonging to Mudakuvaka and she was arrested.
Mutanda was found with four rolls of wrapped dagga in a black plastic and was arrested. Mberikunashe was arrested and jointly charged with Mafo for possession of dagga.
“The Police will not allow criminals to supply drugs in our societies. Members of the public are appreciated for the supply of information and are further encouraged to continue supplying information so that all criminals are brought to book,” said Dhewa.
